Nicknamed the `Doctor´ for his degree in medicine, played for Botafogo, Corinthians, Fiorentina, Flamengo and Santos was one of the best players in the history of the Brazilian team, with which he played the World Cup in Spain 1982 and Mexico 1986. It was the older brother of former footballer Rai and father of six children.
Socrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira was hospitalized since Friday night after feeling sick during dinner. The former Saturday improved with medication, but eventually died because of infection. He was on dialysis, in which was his third hospitalization for liver problems.
The former player, who made history for its fine quality and supported in their tiny foot (wore a 37), admitted his addiction to alcohol after taking public their problems, and noted that he had spent his entire career.
